2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
Hi again! I want to talk about a topic today that has struck such a cord with me over the past year. It has meant so much to me and I just pray I can do it justice. Lord, let these be your words, not mine!
The above verse has SO much meaning! But for this post I want to focus on the first few words: “My grace is sufficient for you.”
Throughout my life, one thing that has always meant a lot to me is verbal encouragment. That’s kind of embarrassing to admit! But think about how good it makes you feel when a boss or a parent tells you “Good job.” Or your spouse says “I love you,” or “You’re beautiful!” Or a friend tells you she loves your new shirt! I know these things seem trivial, but how much do we strive for them, sometimes without even realizing it! A few verbal compliments can sometimes mean the difference in an “OK” day and a great day.
If you are like me, we depend on firstly our spouses to “fill our cup.” Whether it is verbal encouragement, gifts, acts of kindness (help in the kitchen, folding laundry)…whatever it is to you individually. Then whatever needs they don’t meet, we depend on co-workers, friends and family.
Now, because of Nate’s cognitive impairments and speech difficulties, I can’t depend on him for these needs. For a while, I really struggled with this!
Jeremiah 17: 5-8
Thus says the LORD, “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the LORD. 6 “For he will be like a bush in the desert and will not see when prosperity comes, but will live in stony wastes in the wilderness, a land of salt without inhabitant. 7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD. 8 “For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes ; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.
What this boils down to, is turn to God first. Let the King fill your cup! He will ALWAYS be enough for you. And people, even when they are doing their very best, will NEVER be enough. Our Lord knows us more intimately than the closest friend could ever think of. He knows your neeeds, and can meet them fully and perfectly every time. If you only depend on people, you will wither up like a “bush in the desert.” The Lord, who created all of us, loves you. We are his bride, he seeks after our hearts. When you go to Him, and let His love fill your cup, then everything else will just be that much more wonderful.
Love in Him,
Genie Alice
